Donegal Rugs: British Arts & Crafts CarpetsWhat are Donegal Rugs: It all began in 1898, when Alexander Morton & Company of London began producing handwoven carpets in Donegal, Ireland. By 1903, due to the influence of England's most prominent designers, in particular C.F.A. Voysey, these carpets had introduced a unique new style to interior design. The large stylized leaves and flowers typical of Voysey's carpet designs formed the perfect complement to the Arts & Crafts interiors then in vogue. Gustav Stickley, who owned
several Donegal carpets, offered two designs in his catalogues: The Fintona and an unnamed
design (our Gustav Stickley Donegal attributed to C.F.A. Voysey). In the December 1906
issue of "The Craftsman",
JAX has taken great care in selecting only the finest and most authentic examples of Arts and Crafts design to reproduce. We choose to offer to our customers only those carpets whose quality, design and color truly do justice to the originals. Our Nepalese Voysey carpets are the finest Arts & Crafts carpets made in the last one hundred years. Every rug is hand woven from 100% handspun wool ( click here to view a worker shearing a JV-5 by hand in Nepal). Our new line of Turkish knotted
